Zaragoza, 4 June 2025 — ARPA is proud to announce its key role in the completion of the European project LIFE ZERO ENERGY MOD (Zero Energy Habitable Mobile Modules in Europe), an ambitious initiative led by the Aragón Hydrogen Foundation and co-funded by the European Union's LIFE programme. After four years of intensive development, the project has demonstrated the feasibility of creating energy-self-sufficient habitable modules designed to operate in remote locations without connection to the electricity grid.
A cutting-edge project in sustainability and mobile technology
The project has brought together a high-level consortium comprising the Aragón Hydrogen Foundation (coordinator), the University Centre for Defence Studies, B-Haus (specialising in Passivhaus construction), and ARPA, whose extensive experience in developing mobile field solutions has been essential for the final prototype to become a reality.
This prototype consists of three containerised habitable modules that integrate Passivhaus technologies, renewable energies and hydrogen production and storage systems. Its design meets the needs of habitability in extreme conditions, without relying on fossil fuels, and opens up new possibilities for both civil and military uses.
Key results
The project's achievements are remarkable:
- 85% reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional solutions.
- Generation of more than 15,000 kWh exclusively from renewable sources.
- Savings of more than 17,000 litres of diesel per year.
- Elimination of 45 tonnes of CO₂ and 0.6 tonnes of NOx per year.
These results demonstrate that the technology is ready for application in real-world situations, with clear advantages in terms of sustainability, efficiency and comfort.
A future with our own energy
The completion of the project coincided with the conference entitled ‘Sustainable architecture and renewables: the future with our own energy’, organised on 29 May by the Aragón Hydrogen Foundation at the Official Association of Quantity Surveyors and Technical Architects of Zaragoza. The results of the project were presented at this event and its innovative impact was highlighted with institutional recognition from the Official Association itself.
At ARPA, we reaffirm our commitment to technological innovation and sustainability. Our participation in LIFE ZERO ENERGY MOD reflects our dedication to promoting advanced energy solutions for critical scenarios, from hospitals in isolated areas to humanitarian missions and military deployments.
We continue to work towards leading the future of mobile energy self-sufficiency.
