THE KEY ANNUAL EVENT IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE: THE 28TH CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES (KNOWN AS COP28), THE GREAT CLIMATE SUMMIT 2023.

A global event that this year is being held in Dubai under the slogan ‘Unite. Act. Deliver’, to advance decarbonisation, promote green energy and achieve more cooperation and funding for a greener and more prosperous future.

‘We need corporate leaders in the fossil fuel industry, in the financial sector and elsewhere who can challenge shareholders about destructive short-term profits in favour of a long-term vision of returns on investment for the planet. (...) We can. We will. That is the attitude we must adopt at COP 28.’

- Simon Stiell, executive secretary of UN Climate Change.

And, of course, Clara Arpa, CEO of ARPA Equipos Móviles de Campaña, is already there

Between 30 November and 12 December 2023, the Expo City Dubai conference centre in the United Arab Emirates will host more than 70,000 people at COP28. The Conferences of the Parties have been held for almost thirty years, bringing together representatives from almost two hundred countries and multi-stakeholder groups to boost climate dialogue and achieve international agreements. The most relevant agreement reached was at COP21: the Paris Agreement. A pact that achieved a commitment to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels and activate adaptation measures.

The presidency of COP28 has presented four main themes for this meeting, as stated in its letter to stakeholders:

  1. Accelerate the energy transition and reduce emissions by 2030.
  2. Financing climate action.
  3. Keep the promises and lay the foundations for a new global agreement.
  4. Placing nature, people and lives at the centre of climate action.

ARPA is a Spanish SME committed to the fight against climate change and we wanted this high-level meeting to serve as a means of publicising the local, national and international policies that we are implementing.

In this way, Clara Arpa, President of the UN Global Compact and member of the United Nations Board as CEO of ARPA, will be present on different discussion panels.

Clara Arpa will participate in the high-level event organised by Caring For Climate, the international platform of the UN Global Compact, which brings together people in senior executive positions in business, industry, finance, civil society, the United Nations environment and governments to reduce greenhouse gases.

In addition, the UN Global Compact Spanish Network is organising the SBTi's Leading Companies event in the UN Global Compact pavilion. This event will focus on the climate goals established by science for the private sector, in which various experts from the business world and the  Science Based Target provide key action points and first-hand accounts of their work..

Likewise, Clara Arpa has also been invited to the Spanish Pavilion for Corporate Leadership in Climate Action, where business leaders will talk about corporate climate ambition. In addition, several Spanish companies will participate in the meeting organised by the UN Global Compact on the Climate Ambition Accelerator, ARPA will be present among them

Finally, a networking session between Spanish companies is planned for 7 December, in collaboration with the CEOE.
